a story

august.20.2004

Before I start the story,
some background I must show.
For you to feel the impact,
the past you have to know.

The time was long in coming,
and the change was all but fast.
The seeds were deeply planted,
but the poison couldn't last.

Forgetting what had mattered,
I slipped into a state.
Beleiving what they told me,
they tried to seal my fate.

The answers that had held me,
had vanished in the air.
I threw away the reasons,
and didn't even care.

My eyes were growing darker,
and at times I couldn't see.
I fell in so much deeper,
and swore this couldn't be.

But all the years I wasted,
he'd never left my side.
I'd spent this time ignoring,
those things they tried to hide.

I know he gives us people,
to help us on the way.
The day we shared a moment,
I prayed that you would stay.

You gave to me the reasons,
of a life I had forgot.
I saw in you the beauty,
that a selfish life is not.

But as I felt you slipping,
I squeezed you way too tight.
I saw the fear within you,
where once I saw a light.

The time that followed after,
was a test for him and I.
Was all that had awakened,
just another lie?

But then I left it silent,
and I listened to his voice.
He told me what he wanted,
but he gave to me a choice.

So now I sit here silent,
but a peace has calmed my soul.
I lifted you above me,
and I let him take control.

The future isn't certain,
but the hope I have is clear.
Now I stand with no one,
but I love with no more fear.
