the rose dies

the rose dies

april.29.2003

the rose was buried deep,
and beautiful it grew.
brighter it would bloom,
when it was touched by you.

the smile on your face,
made all the petals strong.
the beauty of your heart,
kept it here this long.

the strength found in the core,
made the others glare.
nothing could destroy,
the love it had to share.

the redness of the rose,
bled from every pore.
your eyes enriched its depth,
it longed for nothing more.

but something in the rose,
deep within it's seed.
a darkness that it hid,
soon began to bleed.

reflection of itself,
was hard for it to face.
whispers told it lies,
then left without a trace.

the rose's color drained,
and brittle it became.
soon the pain set in,
and withered from the shame.

the rose looked far and wide,
for the truth he used to know.
but somehow it had gone,
with the love you used to show.

many years have passed,
it's time was running thin.
he swallowed all his fears,
and grew for you again.

but just as it had feared,
the rose was much too late.
with those words you spoke,
you sealed the rose's fate.

the rose that lived in me,
lost it's final fight.
taken from your hands,
and robbed of all your light.

Although it could not last,
through all the pain and strife.
this fact will never die,
I'll love you all my life.
